HINT/HELP****
The publisher blurb on the back cover of the book states:
“Though she has been exploring multi-genres and hybrid spaces for almost fifteen years, she has no idea how to categorize this book.”
As a reader, how do you categorize this book? Is it memoir, prose-poetry, fiction, documentary, walking meditation, or something else entirely? Does category matter? How do we situate ourselves as readers when encountering hybrid works? For me, one of the things that strikes me about this work in relation to our exploration of music in this class, is the way Gladman’s writing addresses duration, geographical space, movement, and time. Like a piece of music, Gladman’s writing is a time-based art that exists somewhere between the scene of inscription (the recording), and our experience as readers playing it back.
