1) When writing the essay, you must narrow the topic into a specific thesis which you will prove by citing and analysing examples from the literary texts. Any secondary sources must be documented with MLA format both in the body of your essay and in a “Works Cited”. Those are the only allowed pieces of evidence for the essay.
2) Create a thesis statement that conveys how something specific to the theme of imperialism is either common or different in “The day they burned the books” and in “Araby.”
3) Your thesis should state an opinion. Be bold. Do not merely restate the question or one of its assumptions.
4) Effectively use techniques by which meanings are achieved (How is more important than what)
5) Written in the Present tense
6) Stick to the thesis throughout the essay.
