In the coming weeks, you will continue your analysis, research, and planning by using the JSOFSEA Framework to further refine the Environment and define the Problem based on the feedback you receive. Once you have done those steps, you will recommend an Approach to solving the issue you have identified. Right now, your topic should be defined as needed.
Objective
Synthesize all information learned in the Profession of Arms
Use the elements found in the Profession of Arms Key Concept to define the Environment as you analyze your topic
As the SOF Narrative states,
While we focus on the challenges of today, we must also prepare for an uncertain, dynamic, and rapidly evolving future. We will do this through innovative and critical thinking, experimentation, and exercises that identify future challenges and opportunities and create strategic solutions and options for our leaders (JSOU, 2016, p. x).

Review / refer to the JSOFSEA Framework Flowchart
As necessary, refine the topic you selected for your Distance Learning Summative Paper
As necessary, review previous lessons
Review DL Paper Rubric (Environment and Reference section)
Review and analyze guidance documents that support the desired state
Show depth of analysis based on organizational leadership and SOF’s future environment
Follow the steps below to complete the assessment:
Download and use the IPR 2 template
Complete the assessment
Use a minimum of three (3) highly relevant references with corresponding in-text citations utilizing APA style format
Upload the assessment into the Assessment Turn-in
Understand the Operational Environment (OE)

List your topic
Write and color-code your initial thesis statement in a claim followed by a credible reason format; be prepared to discuss each element of the thesis statement (suggest you review the Write an Effective Thesis Statement document found in the week 3 Required Readings)
Identify the catalyst for change – describe the catalyst in your own words but validate with referenced information
Using bullets, analyze the conditions of the current state in your own words and use command guidance, policy, and/or strategy to substantiate
Possible conditions – using bullets, identify possible conditions of a more desirable state
Defined conditions
Using bullets, identify defined conditions of the desired state
Write a clear and concise desired state statement in PURPLE
Additional Guidance:
Summarize and incorporate relevant conditions of the environment contributing to the selected topic. Describe the relevant conditions to the current environment, the conditions of the desired state, and the catalyst for change.
Current environment framed – the environmental frame is a narrative and graphic descriiption that captures the history, culture, and current state. Included in the environment are the adversary, friendly, and neutral actors that are relevant (JP 5-0, 2020, pp. IV-4 – IV-11)
