For this third interactive assignment, we would like you to think about the genres of movies you enjoy and to choose your favorite genre. Explain the following points:
1) Why do you like this genre?
2) What are the formal components (i.e. what visual style and visual tropes do the films use) and structural components (i.e. what kind of stories and characters do the films use) of this genre?
3) What is your favorite film in the genre? Explain through reflection on your expectations as a spectator and genre conventions.
4) What is your least favorite film in the genre? Why?
5) How is your genre global in scope? For example, does it include mostly Hollywood films that sell well abroad? (e.g. sci-fi or spy thrillers are usually Hollywood blockbusters that dominate foreign screens). Or is it a foreign genre introduced to the U.S.? (e.g. the genre of the martial arts film is largely an import to North America from East Asian countries). Or is it a genre that exists differently in different countries? (e.g. the genre of the musical exists differently in Hollywood and Bollywood).
Your post should be between 200 and 500 words long. It’s ok if you go a bit over 500 words but you cannot go under 200. You may include an image or a video, if appropriate, or describe it in detail so that your peers may understand what you are discussing.
