1. During the term you will need to choose one argument to rebut. For example, if a team argues that Brexit will turn out badly for the UK, you may choose to argue that Brexit will be good for the UK. Please read the discussion, exemplars, and rationale behind claims and counterclaims in argumentation in the Syllabus or “Current Issue Research Analysis” Book above.
2. This is a two-part assignment where the first part (the presentation of the Claim) is done in a group and the second part (the written Counterclaim) is done individually. The first part is weighted at 12% of the overall mark and the second part is weighted at 12% of the overall mark. The second part (the Counterclaim) cannot be based on your own team’s argument (obviously!). You will need to choose another team’s argument with which you may disagree or for which you can formulate a counterclaim. This second part/counterclaim is due one week after the other team’s presentation.
