It is important to teach scientific literacy when teaching STEAM subjects (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) at all school levels.
Explain what scientific literacy means and discuss how science literacy can be improved with the help of three teaching methods of your own choice.
The following questions must be answered:
1. What is scientific literacy?
a. How can a teacher contribute to the promotion of science literacy in school work?
b. What skills should a scientifically literate person possess? (what skills do we want students to possess the most to become scientifically literate?)
c. What characterizes scientifically literate societies? (think about evidence-based decision making and how it can affect people and nature)
2. Talk about three teaching methods that are suitable for supporting students scientific literacy. Show how those methods can be used to improve students scientific literacy (by given examples from/about class and/or project work) and which (sub)elements of scientific literacy the method trains best.
