My mother is a dual citizen from Bulgaria, and she has been my Bulgarian teacher for the past eighteen years. She introduced me to Bulgarian literature, poetry, history, culture, and traditions. Through my yearly visits to Bulgaria, I spent time with my family and understood the costume better. Additionally, I learned that Bulgarian history has a unique mix of fairly advanced cultures, such as Thracian, Bulgar, and Roman. The city of Plovdiv (my mom’s birth town) is the oldest in all of Europe and even has remains of the Roman Empire inside the city, through aqueducts, roads, and a chariot racing track. There have been so much folklore, food, and tradition to absorb both intellectually and academically. (129 Words)
