Getting started:
Soon each of you will become a bachelors-prepared nurse. You will likely take on added or new responsibilities as leaders, educators, researchers, collaborators, and patient advocates. Certification and activities/memberships in professional organizations are avenues for professional growth and development. Certification allows you to be recognized by your peers and patients as an expert in the area of certification. Professional organizations allow you to collaborate with professionals with your same interests and professional focus in activities such as development of policies and standards for practice, research, and education.
Assignment #2: Professional Certifications and Organizations
Each member of the class will write a one-page paper about certifications you would like to attain, a professional organization you would consider joining, and the support you might receive from your employer for such activity. Use of 1st person is acceptable.
Instructions: Submit via Moodle a one-page, double-spaced Word document in which you address:

I. A professional nursing certification you would like to attain 3
1) Type of certification
2) Accompanying credentials, if any
3) Requirements for attaining/maintaining the certification
II. A professional nursing organization you would consider joining 3
1) Function of the organization
2) Member benefits (e.g., journal, seminars)
3) Cost of annual membership
4) Discuss a nursing committee you would like to join
III. Institutional support (from your employer or potential) for professional activity 1
1) Recognition
2) Reimbursement for certification, if any
3) Reimbursement for professional membership, if any
4) If not employed, what support would be beneficial to you
IV. Each submission must include
1) An APA formatted title page with running head and page numbers on all pages 1
2) Correct spelling, grammar, abbreviations, APA format, including the Word Doc paragraph default correction, and one full page of content 1
3) A reference list in APA format, on a separate page 1
V. The assignment folder closes after the set due date/time. Late entries are not allowed.
*One point will be deducted for assignments less than 1 full page in length
