Let’s look at some major journals in the field of Cognitive Development. Spend 40 minutes (time) exploring current topics in each of these journals. You may want to do this in a group. There are five journals listed so that is about 8 minutes per journal. This is one of the best ways to stay up with current trends in the field of cognitive development. New articles are published several times a year. Remember to take a look at the authors of papers that you find interesting. This way you can look up additional work by these research teams.

Cognitive Development

Cognitive Development publishes empirical and theoretical work on the development of cognition including, but not limited to, perception, concepts, memory, language, learning, problem solving, metacognition, and social cognition. Articles will be evaluated on their contribution to the scientific debate, innovation and substance of the argument, sufficient sample size and methodological rigor.

Developmental Psychology
https://www.apa.org/pubs/journals/dev/

Developmental Psychology publishes articles that significantly advance knowledge and theory about development across the life span. The journal focuses on seminal empirical contributions. The journal occasionally publishes exceptionally strong scholarly reviews and theoretical or methodological articles. Studies of any aspect of psychological development are appropriate, as are studies of the biological, social, and cultural factors that affect development.

Developmental Science
Please note that may of these journals also include video abstracts. Take a look at many of the video abstracts available here. How might these inspire your final project?

Developmental Science aims to represent the very best of contemporary scientific developmental psychology and developmental cognitive neuroscience, both in the presentation of theory and in reporting new data. Developmental Science includes: comparative and biological perspectives, connectionist and computational perspectives, and developmental disorders. Developmental Science publishes work that bridges levels of explanation, such as from brain development to cognitive or social change, or work that specifically attempts to elucidate mechanisms of developmental change at one level. We do not consider submissions on aging, although studies on the effects of early experience on later development (especially those from a biological perspective) are welcome. Manuscripts judged to fall outside this remit may be rejected without full refereeing.

Infancy, the official journal of the International Congress of Infant Studies, emphasizes the highest quality original research on normal and atypical infant development during the first two years. Both human and animal research are included. In addition to regular length research articles and brief reports (3000-word maximum), the journal includes solicited target articles along with a series of commentaries; debates, in which different theoretical positions are presented along with a series of commentaries; and thematic collections, a group of three to five reports or summaries of research on the same issue, conducted independently at different laboratories, with invited commentaries.
