The Group Assignment (30%) You are required to produce a group presentation* lasting 15 minutes on an international firm of your group choice. Group membership and firm choice will be decided in your first seminar in week 2 – we will assist you with your choice. In your group presentation you will map out your firm’s operations globally. You will present in WEEK 7 in your seminar groups. Upon successful completion of this assignment you would achieve the following learning outcomes: · the capacity to contribute to the development and review of international business strategy; · skills to evaluate critically functional activities of international business organizations; · a deeper understanding of international business; · practiced your analytical and transferable skills through oral presentation. Working in groups of four to six people, you are required to undertake the following: 1. Outline the operations of the firm taking into account operations at home AND in the host market 2. Outline the past internationalisation of the firm and the key operations of your selected firm in the market. 3. When did the firm enter the host market? How? What happened? Focus on the period in which your firm entered the market. You may also want to include an update on the contemporary situation (if appropriate). 4. Apply Dunning’s OLI to your firm 5. What does the application of the OLI tell us? What doesn’t it tell us? 6. Present your findings clearly ready to present as a group in your seminar. The presentation will be assessed according to the following criteria: 1. The depth and quality of research underpinning the presentation. 2. The correct application of analytical frameworks. 3. The ability to evaluate the relative importance of critical/key success factors. 4. Quality of the presentation (clarity, brevity, structure, quality of visual representations). 5. Evidence of groupwork. The presentations will take place during your seminars in Week 7 (week starting 8th November – remember to check your timetable for your seminar time and location). In line with university policy, marks and feedback for this assessment will be returned within three working weeks (but we hope to do so sooner and give feedback in the next seminar). If you experience issues with your group work i.e. individual student participation, contact your tutor sooner rather than later and we will assist where possible. For this assessment we expect you to be drawing on industry and media sources regarding your chosen firm. This includes company websites and annual reports. However, there must be some reference made to academic sources as you are applying Dunning to your firm. We therefore expect to see some academic references, beginning with Dunning. *If seminars move online then students will prepare a 15 minute video presentation that will be shown in the seminars.
