Project Synopsis – IRB Submission Form
Instructions: The purpose of this assignment is to prepare an overview of your project for the Institutional Review Board (IRB) packet. Use the information listed below as a guide to prepare a 3 – 5-page essay paper that will present your Action Research Project to the IRB. Follow this format and apply the APA format when writing [include all questions and all responses should be in paragraph form]. The questions are to be used to guide your thoughts so that your paper is inclusive of all pertinent information necessary for the IRB’s review of your project.
I. STATEMENT OF PURPOSE AND JUSTIFICATION

2. State your research problem: (What is the problem you are trying to/want to address with this research project?)
3. What is your key research question (s)?
4. Significance of the Problem – Why is this an issue in the community? What does your action research project hope to address in the community?
5. Research Goal and Objectives. [formerly Anticipated Change] As a result of #4, what are the goals of your project? What are the objectives that will need to happen to support those goals? The objectives should state “how” you are going to accomplish your goals.

Has it been addressed prior to your project? Who was affected before? Who will now be affected? What stakeholders are currently involved in addressing what you consider to be a problem?
B. How do the demographics of your community play a part in your project? What are the demographics? What do the statistics mean regarding your topic? How have the demographics changed over the year[s] and has the community contributed negatively or positively to this project issue?
III. METHODOLOGY: Describe your research methods and techniques:
A. What are your participant selection criteria? Who will participate in your research? Adults? Young adults over the age of 18? How will you identify and contact your possible participants? Approximately how many participants do you want to/expect to take part in your research? Where will you find the research participants you will need? How will you contact your participants?
Refer to the Vulnerable Population Memo in the Practicum Handbook.
B. What data collection instruments/approaches will you use? Interviews, focus groups, surveys? Approximately how long will each survey/interview take? Where, what location and/organization will you conduct this research study? How did you choose this location?
Attach a copy of your interview and survey questions. Refer to the Interview/Survey Question form located in the Practicum Handbook.
C. What recording methods will you use to record the data that study participants are giving you? (Field notes, audio recording procedures, note-taking during interview)? For Zoom interviews or Focus group sessions, attach the audio consent form in the Practicum Handbook.
