Scenario
You have recently joined a new retail organization as an HR Generalist. As part of your onboarding as a new employee, you are told that you must identify an area or areas in which you would like to develop behaviors or skills that you currently either do not possess or that are not developed to the level that is required for successful job performance.
The Director of Human Resources has instructed you to create an Individual Development Plan. Once you have created this, you will review it with the Director to revise, if necessary, and then will begin to implement the plan once you have completed your probationary period at the company.

• Defines the area(s) you wish to improve or develop.
o What are some things that you would need to be skilled at to excel in this role? What are you struggle with are you someone that struggles with organizational skills? Do you struggle with time management? Do you struggle with public speaking? Do you struggle with filling the blank OK? What are some individual development areas? Determines the work behaviors required for your chosen objective(s).
o What are the specific work behaviors with your objective that you need to improve For example – do you need to better prioritize and organize the project that you need to work on because you have identified that you need to be better at organizing and streamlining your weekly work plans.
• Includes measures to track progress.
o What some specific measures you can implement that are going to help you track your progress. For example, come up with timelines and use that to measure against real outcomes, so here’s my goal. Here’s what actually happened.
• Provides evidence of accomplishment of objective(s).
o What is the evidence that you are going to be demonstrating. To show that you have achieved or accomplished the objective. Is it that you are going are going to be ahead of schedule with you know, accomplishing your projects? What is your methodology that you plan to use. For example, is that your methodology for organizing your information is going to be easily categorized and easy to find for anyone? Use SMART GOALS??
• Details an overall timeline for the plan as well as specific time milestones for reviewing progress.
o you’re giving yourself X amount of time to accomplish these goals overall and then what are your milestone goals or timeline for reviewing the progress are you going to do a review every month? Every quarter? Annually?
• Provides attribution for credible sources used in the individual development plan.
