~a paragraph of summary for each source
By completing these assignments weekly, i will have a complete Works Cited/Reference page and generate narrative paragraphs for your semester essay project.
We will build these source write-ups into your essay draft week by week.
Step 1. To begin, choose a source you will definitely incorporate into the Reflective Narrative Essay.
Step 2. In a paragraph, summarize the source.
SUMMARY GUIDELINES
The summary should follow these guidelines:
~ Introduce the title and author of the article in the first sentence; i.e.,
In the article I am not a story Galen Strawson takes issue with the idea that humans are the stories of their experiences.
~ Encase the article title in quote marks or italicize it.
~ Address the author by last name Strawson not first.
~ Write in Literary Present Tense (LPT), meaning all verbs are present tense (states, discusses, reasons).
~ Avoid wordy phrases such as “and then the writer goes on to say . . .” and “the reason why is because”.
~ Avoid second-person you, your, and yourself (in all academic writing and in all writing in this class!)
~ Write in your own words: Do not locate a summary on the internet. I will know.
~ Thoroughly cover the key points of the article.
~ Use no quotes from the article.
~ Write 1 full paragraph which is 6-8 full sentences at least.
~ End the summary paragraph with an in-text citation (Strawson).
