A philosophy paper on transgender people wanting specific pronouns changing laws and changing gender on state ids, of they have the right to have preferred pronouns, shouldn’t society reserve the right to call them by the pronouns they identify them as
So at the beginning of the semester the professors asked for a proposal the topic must be one which admits of distinctly moral analysis. That is, at some point we will need to ask questions about what is morally good or morally right within the scope of the topic.
The topic cannot be Capital Punishment or Abortion.
So i chose, Transgenders, although not new, have had much of an
impact on our society today. From basic pronoun usage all the
way to changing laws and genders on state ID’s, there is a broad
spectrum of changes that have occurred in an effort to adapt to
the increase and power of the transgender community.
If transgenders people reserve the personal right to have preferred
pronouns, shouldn’t society reserve the right to call them by
what pronouns they identify them as? It is a personal choice to
change genders, and we as a free country should reserve the
right to identify people as we please in respect to their biological gender.
1.Choose a specific moral question within the scope of the proposed topic.
Write a short (2 pages) paper which gives the Virtue Ethics answer to that question.
Write a question from within the scope of the proposed topic.
Choose any question within the scope of the topic, so long as it is a moral question. There are lots of ways to form moral questions, but one easy way to tell whether the chosen question is a moral one is to look and see if it uses moral language – right/wrong, morally good/bad or justifiable/unjustifiable, etc.
Please format the paper using either APA or MLA style. A references page is required.
In order to be marked complete, the paper needs to:
-Introduce and explicitly state a moral question which the paper considers. If the paper never defines a question or makes a statement of thesis, it will be marked incomplete.
-Describe whatever parts of the moral theory which are relevant to the question. If the paper never talks in detail about the moral theory of Virtue Ethics, it will be marked incomplete.
-Inform the reader about whatever parts of the topic which are relevant to the question. If the paper makes claims about the topic without explaining them or supporting them with research, it will be marked incomplete.
-(1) cite the readings from the unit and (2) explicitly describe the moral theory and how it answers the question. You are welcome to use other sources as well, but if all your sources are summary sources and blogs, grade will suffer. A paper without citations cannot be marked complete.
One way to ensure that you have met all these requirements is to organize the paper in the following way:
Introduction
Briefly state the project topic
State the paper’s research question and thesis
Moral Theory
Cite and describe the general features of the moral theory
Cite and describe some specific features of the moral theory which will matter in the paper
Application
Cite and give any necessary background information about your topic
Apply the moral theory to answer the paper’s question (Use explanations from Section 2 to answer the question in Section 1)
Conclusion
Restate the key points of your argument
Re-state the answer to the paper’s question / thesis
