1. Research a religion of your choice. If you choose one you are not familiar with, you are likely to increase your learning about world religions.
a. Identify the religion that you researched and the source(s) you used. Was that source credible? Why/why not?
b. Give a brief summary of that religion’s main beliefs. Identify roles of men and women in the religion
2. Compare the religions or spiritual traditions identified in this discussion forum by answering the following:
a. What messages did each of these religions give about the roles of men and women in the family? in the religious organization? in society?
b. Which of the religious traditions discussed raises the most questions in your mind about the way it regards to gender roles?
c. Are these religions patriarchal, matriarchal, both, or neither? Do you think patriarchy affects the way people in your religion have portrayed
God/Higher Power/Maker of the Universe? If our society were matriarchal – ruled by women – do you think we would visualize God differently?
In your mind, is there any value to thinking of the divine as both masculine and feminine? Why or why not?
