You may select a “group” of diseases, such as tropical infectious diseases, however you may find it easier to select one. Per the rubric, in order to obtain the maximum number of points, students must use additional references in addition to providing an in-depth discussion on infectious disease. -Identifies at least 1 infectious disease common in developing countries to research
-Provide statistics as to the incidence of this disease
-Identify why this infectious disease has a high incidence in the developing world (UNLESS YOU FIND A BETTER DISEASE) (i.e., Malaria due to lack of mosquito netting)
-Discuss how the infectious disease of choice impacts the developing world (i.e., does it hurt the economy, lead to poverty or lack of education, or lead to co-infections)
-Identify at least one program designed to help eliminate this infectious disease that has been implemented and describe the effectiveness of the program (i.e., STOP TB Program and outcomes)
-Identify at least one additional resource or program that could be implemented to improve outcomes (can be an actual program or one the student envisions)
