Comparing and Contrasting Exercise
For this assignment you are going to compare and contrast two stories about the same event, one from a left leaning publication, and one from a right leaning publication. Here is a chart of several options and where they fall. The ones on the left lean left, and the ones on the right lean right. The ones that are further from the center will probably work best for this assignment.
Instrutions:
1. Find a recent story that can easily be found in the news. Political stories probably work best for this assignment. Read the questions first and make sure the articles you choose are appropriate. If you answer that there were no differences, you will get that question wrong. Choose your articles wisely.
2. What topic did you choose to write about?
3. Fill in the following chart. In the first three blanks write a short paragraph (4-5 sentences of your own. ) providing an analysis of the story along with one quote that backs up the analysis. This quote should be one sentence or less and fit into your paragraph. For the last question, you should list 2-3 quotes from the article.
4. Use thoughtful analysis for the final questions. Use quotes to back up your assertions.
