Required Source: Dress Codes How the laws of Fashion Made History by Richard Thompson Ford
This essay is 3 to 4 pages typed. At minimum, it must be 3 FULL pages (that means the typing goes all the way down to the bottom of the third page). It is in MLA format: 12-point font; double-spaced; one-inch margins; heading in the upper left-hand corner.
Please include at least four “quote sandwiches.” [You can review the Canvas handout for “Quote Sandwiches” if you forgot what those are. You can also study the handout of the sample essay from the first week of class.]
Look again at Chapter One, and then write an informative essay where you do two things:
Review one or two of the most interesting examples of a past monarchy, or aristocracy, forbidding “commoners,” laborers, or a rising merchant class, from wearing certain attire reserved only for the wealthy elite class—and even punishing those who violated these sumptuary laws.
Then, describe what article of clothing/accessory signals wealth or high social status in the year 2022, and explain who is “allowed” to wear this item.
