Evidence-Based Research Article Analysis: 50 points
Assignment Overview
Using your group’s research question, each student will select a unique evidence-based research article to conduct an in-depth analysis. Once completed, each student’s work will be shared with their group members to support the overall understanding of the topic area or serve as an additional literature review source for the group paper.
Directions:
1. Select an evidence-based research article from a peer-reviewed journal related to your group’s research question and topic area.
2. Optionally (but advised!), get the article pre-approved with your instructor if you are not sure it is appropriate for the assignment guidelines (e.g. not a website, not a conference proceeding, has accessible full-text, it is based on a legitimate research study, the journal is peer-reviewed, etc.; See chapter 37)
3. Carefully read through the article and make notes or annotate (See chapter 32)
4. Identify key areas that you will address in-depth for your write-up
5. Write a thorough 1000+ word analysis to address the following:
a. What is the aim/purpose of the study? (See chapter 4)
b. What was the study design? And why do you think this was selected? (See chapters 7-14, 22)
c. Who was the target population? Why was this population selected? If the study design delineated groups, how and why were they divided? (See chapter 16)
d. What data was collected? And why?
e. How was the data collected? Who collected it? And when? (See chapters 18-21)
f. How was the data analyzed? What tools were used? And why? (See chapters 27-30)
g. Summarize the main findings and any recommendations from the study
h. Identify any strengths and weaknesses you discovered in the article
6. Be sure to use APA formatting and include the reference citation for the research article
