All questions should be answered in essay form. This exam is open-book and open-internet but you may not work with other students on your answers. Sources are not required but if provided can be helpful in grading in cases where the information stated is incorrect.
1. Discuss the relationships between non-human population growth and ecosystem health (assume there is no human effect at all on this ecosystem.) What does an ecosystem need to be considered healthy? What are some situations where a population may grow exponentially in an ecosystem and what would you expect to happen to this growth curve long-term? What are some natural changes that could affect the ecosystem and what would be the outcomes?
2. Discuss the relationships between human population growth and ecosystem health. What kinds of problems could be caused by humans? What does a growing human population need from the ecosystem? Is there a point where balance between humans and the ecosystem is no longer possible?
3. What are some of the connections between environmental justice and ecosystem health? Do people of all races and all levels of income benefit from the same ecosystem services? Why or why not?
