This assignment focuses on assessing the financial performance and risks of a company. A company’s10k provides details on the organization’s financial performance through sources such as the balance sheet, net income statement, assets, profit and loss statements, and return to shareowners. Their financial risks are also usually disclosed in their 10k. Select 5 fortune 50 companies (from the current year fortune 500 list, see the rankings and select from the top 50 listed) and locate their 10k’s through their respective investor relations websites. Evaluate and synthesize each organizations’ financial performance, identify their risks, and summarize your findings across all 5 companies. Write a 5 to 6-page paper (3/4 – 1-page per company with a final 1-page summary) thoroughly answering the questions below. Financial Performance Summarize from the 10k and supporting company material an assessment of the financial performance of each company. Provide insight into the following (at a minimum) and summarize three-year or five-year (depending upon what is provided) multi-year trends (growth or decline) with corresponding values for each of the metrics below: Total Revenues Total Expenses Net Income Stock Price and its growth (or not) Earnings Per Share (EPS) Dividend level and growth (or not) For example, Company A, with total gross revenues of $1 billion dollars has experienced revenue growth of 5% per year for the past 5 years. Financial Risks Summarize the financial risks for each company from their 10k’s. Be sure to focus on only financial risks, as some risks may not be financial. Compare and Summarize After you have completed the analysis of financial performance and risks for each company, compare their performances and risks to each other. Recognize the five companies you selected may be in different markets with different growth rates, but there may be some patterns regardless of the market. At a minimum, please provide insight into the following 7 questions with your comparisons: Which company had the highest revenue growth? Which had the highest expense growth? Which had the highest net income growth? Which company disclosed the highest number of financial risks? Which company “risks” seemed very serious and concerning for any future investor? From your perspective, which company seems to be performing the best and has the best chances of winning long term with the least amount of risk? Why? From your perspective, which company seems to have the greatest challenge in front of them given financial performance and risks? Why?
