The speech plan/outline should include the following components:
Top of Page: Your name Title of Speech, Purpose Statement, Thesis Statement, and Organizational Pattern
Introduction
Attention Grabber – How will you grab your audience’s attention?
Introduce yourself and why you’re qualified to give the speech (establishing credibility – ethos)
State your thesis
Provide the roadmap of the speech for the audience
Body of the Speech
Have at least three main points (Problem/Solution/Benefits)
Each main point should develop into subpoints or supporting details. The Problem/Solution will be longer than the benefits.
Supporting details should involve definitions, evidence, stories/anecdotes, or examples that support the main idea
Should be written as a sentence outline (not bullet points)
Cite sources throughout using APA
Conclusion
Signal the end (In conclusion, To wrap this up, etc.)
Summary Step – recap key points discussed (very short)
Call to action – what can your audience do now to support your cause?
Closing Step – Is there a final clincher, message, quote you want to share at the very end to leave an impact?
