Outline:
• An outline serves as an organizer for your research paper. It will include your topic sentence, main points found in research, brief recommendations you will make, and your conclusion.
• In each section of your outline, you should have 2-3 bullets filling in the information you plan to write about in your actual research paper.
• The outline provides the structure and framework of how your final research paper will look.
How to complete your outline:
• Use the following bolded sections (with bullet points) to begin your outline. It should look like this on your own outline page:
o Introduction
o Research
o Recommendations
o Conclusion
o References
• Then, you will add 2-3 bullets points under each section and begin filling in those bullets with the following information:
o Under the Introduction section:
▪ Include your topic sentence and another sentence about why your topic is important or background information on your topic.
o Under the Research Section:
▪ Include main points (or findings) you learned from the research you found (from books, academic journals, etc.). Meaning, what did the research book/article tell you? What did you learn about your topic?
o Under the Recommendations Section:
▪ Include some recommendations (or suggestions) you would make based on what you learned from the research.
o Under the Conclusion Section
▪ Include one or two sentences that would briefly summarize the main finding and most important recommendation you would make based on the research.
