Child protective services workers, mental health professionals, and law enforcement personnel employ a variety of approaches in interviewing children who are suspected victims of sexual abuse. Some of these approaches utilize structured interviews, while others use open-ended interviews or interviews utilizing anatomically correct dolls.
In this learning activity, you are presented with a case of an elementary school student. Bobby is an 8-year-old male. You have been called in after he reported to his teacher possible sexual abuse by his father. Bobby’s mother does not live in the home. Bobby does not display any clear acute physical and psychological signs or symptoms at this point. You are asked to interview Bobby to be able to collect as much information possible to provide the best care in this situation.
In your paper, include the following:
Discuss what interview approach would provide the most accurate information for working with Bobby.
Present at least 10 questions you would ask Bobby in this case.
Justify your decisions based on information from the article and textbook readings as well as any outside scholarly sources.
