Here is one of my peers post : Patrick Tully (He/Him)
I am looking forward to taking this course, as I am interested in learning more about the history of theories and systems of thought. I would like to unpack how through time the theorists developed their theories and what happened to some of them, as some became mainstream whereas others did not. I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Los Angeles, CA. I am originally from Seattle, Washington but have been in Los Angeles, CA for over a decade! I am an LGBTQIA+ Affirmative therapist in private practice. My contact information is in my Canvas bio by the way!
The significance of research today and how that impacted past theories is also interesting. I have seen studies that applied various systems of thought and sometimes also adjusted them based on culture to ensure validity for that culture. Adler is one example where certain testing scales were adjusted to the populations of various countries. I hadnt realized he developed any psychometric scales until recently. It is interesting how there is one journal that really focuses on Adler. I forget the name of the journal, but it publishes research involving Adler on a consistent basis. I say good for them! This is a great way to stay relevant in research! On the topic of journals, but going off track, I DO hope that more journals do become more open access as I hate having to utilize a paywall as there is a tremendous amount of research that could be so beneficial, but the articles are so expensive. However, the money does go towards the publishing costs as well as the publisher. The author does not typically get paid unfortunately. At least that is my understanding.
