Discuss on Social Issue and Human Developmental Project (20 pts)
Each student will complete an individual or group paper (groups are limited to 3 people). The paper will be related to a CURRENT social/developmental issue that affects individuals whom you might be counseling. Consult with instructor if you need help determining your topic. If you decide to work in groups, talk to your chosen classmates and decide on a COMMON social/developmental issue, work together by discussing the issue, providing detail background of the issue and present it in an organized paper is required. This project is an opportunity for you to shed light on a current pressing social/developmental issue and ways that you can advocate and assist.
In this paper, you should connect the social issue to concepts of human development theories and to counseling theories/techniques that may be useful in conceptualizing and helping clients with your chosen issue.
Include:
This paper should be 5-6 pages (not including title page, abstract and reference sheet).
APA format (title page, abstract, reference sheet) using the latest edition.
Should include at least 3 peer reviewed journal articles or professional sources not including the textbook to provide support for your information/claims.
If you work in groups, turn in ONE paper (for all group members) with all names on the paper. Completing one paper per group isnt a way to cease from submitting quality work.
NOTE: The resulting grade will be the grade that EVERYONE receives therefore, make sure that you all are satisfied with the end product and that considerable detail is given to the paper and what is included.
What I am looking for in a well-developed paper.
What is the social/developmental issue? Background? How does it affect people/clients? What problems are occurring to this particular population? Give detail and include professional sources to support.
What human development theories pertain to understanding this issue? Why?
What counseling theory(s) may help explain/help clients dealing with these issues work through them?
Explain any multicultural/ethical considerations for counselors to consider when working on the chosen issue.
What are some advocacy strategies that you (or your group) will use to help clients who are experiencing these social/developmental issue(s)?
What counseling techniques will you the therapist utilize in session in order to help your client in session (techniques, empathy, referrals etc) through these issues (keep human growth/development in mind)?
Why is it important for other counselors to know about this chosen social/developmental issue/problem?
