This essay should relate to the following essential questions: What are the historical
foundations of the social justice/reconstruction ideology of education? What evidence of this historical
foundation (of the social-justice approach) can be found in current education policy and practice? The focus of this essay is up to you, but your analysis should be academic and reflect reaching new understandings, NOT summarize the readings. It should contain your reactions, analyses, connections you see between the readings, or questions and contradictions/problems that arise for you. Responses should illustrate your evolving thinking about the topic, and, as the semester progresses, provide evidence of reflection and integration of ideas addressed in the
class working towards the 3 overarching course goals. The response should be academic in nature but the format in which you communicate your analysis is up to you. You may present your analysis in writing (written responses should be 750-1,000 words).
In your analysis, you must reference at least 4 citations from the course syllabus (readings attached) and find at least 1 additional reference (please provide) that connects this topic to your personal practice (e.g. grade level or discipline taught.).
