Write a report Documenting Felony Investigations Involving Property

The requirements for writing a report for a felony investigation are not very different than a report for a misdemeanor investigation involving property. “The writing style of felony crimes involving property is basically the same as the style for misdemeanor crimes involving property.” (Morris & Merson, 2017). After all, the main determining factor between a property crime being a felony of misdemeanor is monetary value. Check your states statutes to see specific details on what level of a crime it is. Different states have different qualifications and determining factors to determine the level of crime. For example, in Arizona it’s a felony crime to property to “Recklessly park any vehicle in such a manner as to deprive livestock of access to the only reasonably available water.” (Morris & Merson, 2017). Something like this most likely isn’t specifically mentions in more populated states like where I live in Massachusetts. This is because there is much more farming in Arizona than in Massachusetts. When dealing with theft “the more you can establish some uniqueness about the missing items, the better your chances of recovery. Take the time to ask the victim follow-up questions that may help identify the missing items” (Morris & Merson, 2017). Just like with misdemeanor crimes, it’s important to get details and serial numbers if possible. Distinguishing features of the item stolen can also help. It’s important to be thorough because felonies often turn into big cases and your report could end up in court. Attention to detail and thorough note taking could be a huge factor in delivering justice. Proverbs 21:15 “When justice is done, it brings joy to the righteous but terror to evildoers.”
