Williams, D R, and T D Rucker. “Understanding and Addressing Racial Disparities in Health Care.” Health Care Financing Review, CENTERS for MEDICARE & MEDICAID SERVICES, 2000, www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4194634/.

This journal article was written by two specialists by the names of David R. Williams, Ph.D., M.P.H. and Toni D. Rucker, Ph.D. Dr. Williams is a Professor of Public Health and chair of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is also a Professor of African and African American Studies and Sociology at Harvard University. Dr. Rucker is a specialist that got her degree in philosophy. They broke down and examined the racial disparities we still face in the flawed healthcare system that the United States has in place. The research they used in the article was pulled from seventy six outside sources. Hearing from all different sides of the table.

Content Summary:
In the article the doctors go into detail about how race or minorities are being affected by the healthcare system in a negative way. In the first few paragraphs a very hair raising fact is giving that still today people of color in America are still at a higher rate of morbidity than white amreicans. This fact is essentially the building block of the article. The article also examines other times in the nation’s history and how minorities in America have been affected through the years.
This article is being used to provide facts on how people of color in America are still negatively affected in the healthcare system and as a result of that people of color have a higher morbidity than white americans. This article has been a key component in my essay thus far and has been cited many times because of the rich research the article consumes.
Quotations:

Quote 1- “National data reveal that over the past 50 years, the health of both black and white persons has improved in the United States as evidenced by increases in life expectancy and declines in infant and adult mortality (National Center for Health Statistics, 1998).However, black persons continue to have higher rates of morbidity and mortality than white persons for most indicators of physical health.”
Quote 2- “More striking, and disconcerting to many is the large and growing number of studies that find racial differences in the receipt of major therapeutic procedures for a broad range of conditions even after adjustment for insurance status and severity of disease.”
Quote 3- “Throughout the history of the United States, non-dominant racial groups have, either by law or custom, received inferior treatment in major societal institutions. Medical care is no exception.”
