The paper must be at least 6 pages long (not including cover page and work-cited page).
• The paper must be double-spaced using 12-point Times New Roman font.
• The research topic must pertain to a contemporary legal/ethical controversy involving a business
entity (or industry) that illustrates at least 2 legal concepts covered in this course as well as 2 ethical concepts covered in this course.
How to Approach the Contemporary Research Paper
(1) You must utilize primary sources to research a contemporary controversy involving a business entity (or industry), identify the key issues of the controversy, engage in a critical analysis of the controversy based on your interpretation of the researched facts and your understanding of the applicable legal & ethical concepts covered in this course.

1. Type your full name. (i.e. Charles E. Ray)
2. Type the course name and section (i.e. BUS 300 L1)
3. Type the semester (i.e. Fall 2022)
4. Type the title of the paper (describe what this paper is all about in a “catchy” way) 5. Set forth a title for each subsection of the contemporary research paper
 The paper must contain at least 6 titled subsections (A., B., C., D., E., & F.)  This first subsection (A.) must be titled “A. Introduction/Background.”
 The last subsection must be titled “Conclusion.”
6. List each major legal concept covered and the chapter in which that concept is covered.  Each paper should cover at least 2 major legal concepts but no more than 4.
 List the “chapter” first then “major legal concept” (see example below).
1. Chapter 11—The Employment-At-Will doctrine (page 365)
2. Chapter 19—The Equal Pay Act of 1963 (page 408)
7. List each major ethical concept covered and the chapter in which that concept is covered.
 Each paper should cover at least 2 major ethical concepts but no more than 4.  List the “chapter” first then “major ethical concept” (see example below).
1. Chapter 5—Moral Minimum (page 143)
2. Chapter 5—Corporate Social Responsibility (page 157)
8. At the bottom of the cover page, compose a thesis statement that effectively communicates the main idea/main point of your paper.
9. After submitting your outline for the paper and having it approved by the Professor you may then proceed to composing the first draft of the Contemporary Research Paper.

(1) Insert the Cover Page (discussed above) as the Cover Page for the Paper.
(2) Set forth a general overview of the researched controversy.
(3) Set forth a detailed summary of each legal concept applicable to the controversy.
(4) Set forth a detailed summary of each ethical concept applicable to the controversy.
(5) Explain how the identified legal concepts apply to the controversy.
(6) Explain how the identified ethical concepts apply to the controversy.
(7) Analyze the way the controversy was resolved by identifying relevant facts and applying those facts to the legal & ethical concepts identified OR (if the matter has not been resolved and is still pending then) set forth a hypothesis about how the controversy should be resolved based on your interpretation of the facts and your understanding of the applicable legal & ethical concepts.
(8) Set forth a one paragraph conclusion that takes into consideration all the main points and observations you’ve made throughout the paper and assert an original summary of the “takeaway lessons” illustrated by your contemporary research paper.
(9) Create a work-cited page (in MLA format) for your contemporary research paper.
(10) Upload your Contemporary Research Paper to CANVAS in the appropriate Module.
