For this portfolio you are required to identify and analyses the
major social and environmental sustainability hot spots and sustainable marketing strategies
companies are implementing to address the hotpots within a specific industry e.g., food retailing, fashion
industry, car industry and the tourism industry. It consists of two components:

1. Sustainable industry potshots analysis (800 words):
For this section you are required to present a synthesis in your own words of 8-10 state of the art news
items (from newspapers, articles, reports, documentaries, webcasts, blogs etc. dated January 2020 or later)
of the most significant sustainability issues relevant to the industry. Your aim is to highlight the major
unsustainable and irresponsible business practices of companies and firms operating within the industry.
More specially you need to address the significant negative impact the practices have on:
1. the environment/planet e.g., high carbon omissions, extensive pollution (air, land, water), massive
waste/ toxins build up, depletion of natural resources, excessive land clearing; extinction of
animal and plant species, etc.; and
2. people such as exploitation of workers, unfair trade practices, unsafe work practices, tax avoidance,
health and well being of people (consumers, vulnerable groups) and local communities
The news items you are reporting on should highlight the most significant environmental and social
potshots and provide evidence of the threat these unsustainable business practices place on the
environment and people.

2. Sustainable marketing strategies analysis (900 words):
For this section you are required to compare and critically analyze the sustainable marketing strategies of
three competing companies within the industry. For each company, you need to outline:
1. their sustainable marketing objectives e.g., to reduce waste/harmful ingredients/energy use; enhance
employee/customer/community well being etc. (150 words);
2. the sustainable marketing mix strategies (600 words) e.g., Product – use recycled materials for
products and packaging; Promotion – raise consumer awareness of sustainability
initiative/encourage consumers to use and recycle products responsibly, Place – source from
sustainable responsible suppliers/use sustainable distributors; Price – ensure fair sharing of profits
in the supply chain/fund community projects; and
3. critically evaluate the sustainable impact (social and environmental) of the sustainable marketing
strategies you have outlined (150 words).
