1. Compare the Beowulf who fought Grendel and his mother with the Beowulf who fought the dragon. Do you see any difference in attitude? Purpose? Goals? Personality?
2. Discuss the “interlude” between Beowulf’s adventures with Grendel and those with the dragon. What do you think is the purpose of including this information? Does it add to or change your opinion of Beowulf? Does it emphasize his humanity? How?
3. Discuss the three monsters Beowulf fights. What might they represent? How are they the same? Different?
