Guidelines
An analytical response essay calls for a critical response where you write your thoughtful response about a topic based on two texts. Compare and contrast two writings and discuss how they relate to one another. The analytical response essay format must include: an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. In the introduction, present your thesis statement and prepare your reader for what follows. The body paragraphs is the nucleus of your essay. Here you explain each separate point and offer evidence to support the thesis, breaking up your argument into paragraphs. Every paragraph in the body relates to your chosen topic and your thesis, but each paragraph adds a new perspective to the point you are making. The conclusion wraps everything together, reiterating the previous points and bringing them all together to strengthen your original thesis. You should include a Works Cited page at the very end of your essay.
