1. Global Titan Reflection (*)
Study Abroad & Global Engagement (SAGE) strives to transform Titans into Global Titans by connecting its diverse community of students with opportunities around the world that drive personal development and transformation and enrich their academic and professional lives.

The Global Titan Reflection serves two functions: 1. As a sample of your college-level, academic writing, and 2. As an opportunity to tell your “Global Titan Story” (thus far). In an essay of 500-1000 words (1-2 pages), please describe your transition from a Titan to a Global Titan. Please organize your statement into the following three sections. You may use, but are not limited nor compelled to, the topics in each section to help you formulate your response.

Introduction (We want to understand, celebrate, and support you as a whole person.)

– Background: life/educational/work experiences, family/guardianship/community, interests, major/minor, etc.

– Diversity: race, ethnicity, culture, religion, age, national origin, immigration status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, physical/mental ability, Veteran/military-family, former foster youth, etc.

– Student: commuter, first-generation, transfer, student athlete, non-traditional/adult learner, student parent, international student, etc.

Impetus (We want to know how you became aware of global opportunities.)

– Significant events/people: moments or people that were critical to your decision to pursue study abroad or other related opportunities

– Influences: film, social media, literature, people/celebrities, etc.

– Feelings towards study abroad and other programs and why: excited, scared, unsure, dismissive, encouraged, etc.

– Challenges: Have you perceived or experienced any barriers or obstacles towards studying abroad (e.g. money, time, academics, etc.)?

– Definition: What do you think being a “Global Titan” means to you, and why is it important?

Goals (We want to know what you hope to gain and/or do.)

– Resolution: What made you decide to “go for it”?

– Expectations: What do you hope to achieve from your program/experience (e.g. academically, personally, professionally, interpersonally, etc.)?

– Contributions: Following your program, how might you use your experience to give back to others and/or continue to stay globally engaged?
