For this assignment, you must MAKE AN ARGUMENT about course concepts and the readings I will attach. This means your essays will require a THESIS, followed by PROOF for that thesis derived from SPECIFIC REFERENCE TO COURSE READINGS. Keep in mind that these are two separate essays, each around 400 words, with two different prompts.
FORMAT:
– Double spaced, 12pt. font, Times New Roman.
– Use normal margins. Include a page number on each page. Do not 1.5 space your papers.
– Use your programs word count function to determine your total. State your word count at the end of the essay.
PROMPTS:
1) How are frames useful for understanding language? Briefly explain what a frame is in the study of language, and then demonstrate its usefulness by examining a situation from popular culture, the media, or your own daily life. Cite course READINGS in your answer.
2) The customary definition of language includes vocabulary and grammar. Why is that definition inadequate, and what other kinds of information do we need to include if we are going to understand language more fully? Cite course READINGS in your answer.

– include a “references cited” or bibliography page at the end
– you may use first person. (In fact, in reality, ALL writing is first person, it’s just that in some “frames” of writing, we are trained to try to erase ourselves from the text. feel free to say “I think…”)
– As you cite from the readings, follow the social sciences notation form found in the Flores & Rosa article that is attached. Make sure to include the page numbers of references, for instance (Flores & Rosa 2019, 147).
