How important is it for HCD professionals to be aware of their own personalities and experiences?

I will be attaching two sources 1 and 2. I will need to generate an open-ended question from each source to use as a discussion. When creating the question, please set them up in a way that youre summarizing the point from the article, and then ask the question.

Ive included an example of a discussion question from one of the source: In the article, titled Human-Centered Design as a Fragile Encounter, the author argues that HCD practitioners have the tendency to elevate their own ambitions, interests, and methods over the desires expressed by target users. In many cases, doing so results in an impractical or incomplete design.

Complicating this matter further, the author goes on to write that “HCD practitioners are not always aware of the effects that their backgrounds and methods have on the decision-making process”.

How important is it for HCD professionals to be aware of their own personalities and experiences? Additionally, how can designers ensure they are fully empathizing with user needs in each stage of the product cycle?

Please look over these sources 1 and 2 and generate a discussion question for each (two in total) like the one above.

Additionally, Id like you to answer this question that comes from source 3:

In the article Incremental and Radical Innovation: Design Research vs. Technology and Meaning Change it talks about the paradigm of “hill-climbing”, which is where a product or service will undergo small, incremental changes that will eventually plateau (reaching the top of the “hill”), until the meaning or technology changes, and then the process repeats until arrived at a new hill that is higher than the one before.

With this in mind, do you think that we’ve reached the top of the “hill” when considering our smart phones? Is there any hill left to climb? Or are we finally at a point where the meaning/technology must change before we arrive at a new hill?
