Step 1. Read, “The New Immigrant Kid ” below:
The New Immigrant Kid
It is the first day of school. Parents new to your school, are registering their children. Your secretary doesn’t know how to assign Hu Kang Li.
Hu Kang is about 9 years old. Neither he nor his parents speak any English. You do not know their nationality or what language the Li family speaks. The only document the Li family has is a school flyer with their names and address written on the back. They are confused, slightly agitated and withdrawn.
Step 2. As the school counselor, you are familiar with the staff, school and district resources, the Consent Decree and the school-home-community. Use that information to develop an action plan to accommodate Hu Kang Li. In your plan, indicate:
What actions will you take on DAY ONE?
What actions will you expect to complete by DAY SEVEN?
What actions will you expect to complete by DAY TWENTY-ONE?
You may wish to consult the Consent Decree (attached to this )
Step 3. Write a Word document completing “It’s Your Call!” Include your action plan and your views on the placement and strategies to help this student.
Step 4. Submit your document as an attachment to this activity.;
