The first component of a scholarly research paper is the introduction. The purpose of an introduction is to clearly state your research topic, which aspect of it you plan to look at, your specific research question, how you will go about researching it (your method), as well as giving a brief preview of your findings and the overall structure of the paper. Your paper should include all of these elements within a 2-3 double-spaced pages. Keep in mind that you cannot as yet preview your findings since you havent yet gathered data, and that other aspects of this introduction may need to be changed/re-worked after youve conducted your research. Nevertheless, this is an opportunity to fully ground your Senior Seminar project and define the key elementsliterature, data, method and findingsthat it will consist of.
