Understanding needs and overcoming conflict
Background: Youre the product manager for a new Bureau effort with multiple stakeholders.
Youre responsible for creating focus for the delivery teams by managing competing priorities
and ensuring there is a vision and mutual understanding of requirements for the team to act
upon.
As you meet with each stakeholder to understand their requirements, you quickly realize that
each person is interested in the project because they have a different priority or goal.
Oftentimes, their priorities are even at conflict with each other and it is unclear how the effort
could address the needs of users. How would you build consensus across stakeholders and
translate that into a project plan for the team? How would you gain an understanding of user
needs and incorporate that into the project vision and plan?
