Before reading this article, how did you define profession and what was your idea of a professional?
What is your reaction to the authors distinction between technical and professional roles? Whats their point?
Taking into account everything the authors say about the roles and characteristics of professionals (e.g. pp. 73-74), and based on your personal clinical experience, to what extent do you feel respiratory therapists function as professionals?
Often people with non-academic backgrounds see argument and debate in a negative light they confuse it with quarreling and an attempt to dominate others. The authors believe that programs should teach students how to argue and debate? Do you think this is good advice? Why?
