Environmental Ethics PowerPoint and Presentation In this project, Mr. Vallejo introduces us to the processes of producing a presentation to share with the class audience. As you work to complete the semester project, keep in mind the opportunity to share your passion for your side of an environmental ethical issue. The finished project will be especially useful for those of us who are “auditory learners.” This project is yet another way to demonstrate your mastery at meeting the Student Learning Objectives for this project. Instructions: Students will create a PowerPoint/Google Slide deck presentation on one side of an environmental ethical issue. You may work alone or with one other student in a cooperative pair. You will then record your presentation of your PowerPoint. You may select from the following list of topics: Offshore oil drilling Pesticide usage in agriculture Government subsidies for electric vehicles Hunting for sport/ hunting for sustenance Solar panel tax incentives for homeowners Fines for nonsorting of trash, recyclables, and green waste Gasoline tax in California Different prices of water for agriculture vs municipalities It is possible that you have thought of another idea for your presentation. Please email for approval before beginning your work. Presentation Guidelines: Each presentation will have a minimum of eight slides. Make use of bulleted lists. Use short phrases in your lists. Your text should be readable from afar. Your text size should be 18-point at a minimum. You are expected to use speaker notes and animations. Required Slides (eight): Title, Name(s), Position on issue Introduction: Definition/Summary of Issue Overview: List your arguments in favor of your position. At least three arguments in favor of your position (at least one slide per reason) Conclusion: Review of your viewpoint and summary of supporting reasons Works Cited Grading: You will not be graded on your point-of-view, but on the quality of your presentation and the thoroughness of your preparation. The PowerPoint presentation is worth 100 lab points. Attach your PowerPoint here. If you are learning virtually this semester or have been approved to work in a group in an on ground class, remember that you are expected to do a presentation as well. If your presentation is virtual, include your PowerPoint as well as the link to your presentation. Your screen (for example, a Zoom recording.) should show all presenters and your PowerPoint. Deliverable: Attach your completed project (ppt) and Provide a link to your presentation if stored on a cloud OR attach a movie of your presentation A note about grading: Although usually graded much quicker, completed assignments will be graded within one week and you will receive your grade in Canvas. For most assignments, you will receive a completed grading rubric, which will give you information on how your grade was determined. View grading comments by clicking on Grades in the course navigation menu and click on assignment comments (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.) and rubric results (Links to an external site.) (Links to an external site.). Students are encouraged to use the comments as a general guide to improve future work. Pay particular attention to comments regarding substantive responses and submission length. Learning Objective: This project helps students master the content and is aligned with the following student learning objectives: Evaluate human impact on the ecosystems and the environment. Evaluate arguments regarding the application of biological principles to contemporary human issues. Successful completion of this assignment will help students demonstrate mastery of the learning objectives.
