One of Americans most cherished liberties is the right to free speech and expression. However, across numerous cases, the Supreme Court has clearly determined that the First Amendment rights of speech and expression are not absolute. Our readings in this lesson discuss sedition, symbolic speech, and offensive speech. Choose two of these types of speech and write an essay that explains how the courts have ruled regarding them. Be sure to specifically discuss court cases that have dealt with these issues. Do you agree with the courts decisions? Why or why not?
