Discussion Questions:
1.) From Chapter 4, why do social identities matter in higher education and college student development? Be specific in drawing from chapter 4.
2.) From Chapter 5, outline steps academic and student affairs educators can take to make a college campus more welcoming for students who want to explore their racial and/or mixed racial identity(ies)? Use specific and concrete examples that may involve the curriculum, extra curricular activities, student services, student affairs programming, etc.
3.) From Chapter 6, describe the characteristics of ethnic identity and what makes it different from but related to racial identity. Be sure to draw from the text or powerpoints in class. Then, think about your own ethnic identity. How did you learn about your ethnicity?
