Assessment Description:
For this assessment, you will complete a case study outlining how you would increase the participation and achievement of a student within a specific category. This assignment is designed to draw on your learning in Topic 1: Inclusive Literacy Teaching. In order to ensure that you have the opportunity to consider a diverse range of students, you will be allocated a case profile by your tutor. Each case proile is associated with a reading list of papers taken from research and professional journals. You must read all of these papers to learn more about the literacy-related challenges and opportunities relevant to this category of learner.
*I need a reference/citation from the 4 readings which I will attach, as well a few more from trusted journals. And at least 1 from this book specifically – A Literature Companion for Teachers by Lorraine McDonald.
Aims:
The aim of this assessment is for you to gain skills in inclusive literacy teaching. You will do this by finding out about a category of learners and considering the kinds of strategies you could implement to support their participation and achievement in English. Because this assessment is a case study, you will be furthering your understanding of how teachers consider the individual needs of each student in their class.
By completing this assessment, you will be able to:
CO1: Analyse features of literary language in different contexts and text types
CO4: Evaluate different theoretical perspectives of learner difference and implications for inclusive teaching of English
Criteria
Assessment 1: Case Study will be marked against the following criteria:
Evidence that you have gained insights into the English/literacy challenges faced by learners in a specific category and that this understanding has been informed by your reading.
Analysis of the Australian Curriculum: English literature strand in terms of the challenges and opportunities it presents to learners in a specific category.
Understanding of the principles of inclusive literacy teaching and consideration of implications for working with students in the specific category.
Descriptions of specific strategies for maximising the participation and achievement in literature learning of students in a specific category.
Consideration of the implications of inclusive literacy teaching for your future professional practice.
The assignment is written in your own words in professional language, suitable for sharing with professional peers. It is apparent that your own written literacy is at a competent standard.
First, you will need to carefully read your allocated case study. (I’ll attach that file)
Next, download and read the readings relevant to your case study. You are required to read and refer to all the set readings related to the student profile you have been assigned. These readings have been taken from academic and professional journals and book chapters. The reason for this is that textbooks are too broad for this kind of focused exploration. Relevant readings are outlined under the Advice and Resources heading below. (I’ll attacg the required readings that need to be referenced/cited)
Download the assessment template which includes the headings and wordcounts you should use to structure this assessment. Using the template will guide your thinking as you consider your case study.
Write your case study using the template.
Write the assignment as a pre-service educator ready to take responsibility for student learning in the curriculum area English/literacy. That is, the emphasis is on what you have learned and how you would put this learning into practice with the goal of increasing the participation and achievement of students in the designated category.
The guides to the number of words per section are just indications. Your tutor will not deduct marks if you go over or under these amounts.
Please note that the headings are not included in the word count for the assignment. References are also not included in the word count. Therefore, you have 1500 words of content to provide.
You should not directly quote sources in this assessment.
Refer to ideas from the readings using citations in the UniSA-Harvard system.
