One. Define long-term-care & explain how it came to be in the U.S. Overall, how would you describe the influence of regulations and oversight on the emergence of the LTC system? What/who are the FOUR components of the LTC system, and which will likely continue to have a dramatic role in how it evolves moving forward?
Two. Although nursing homes have (inaccurately) often been seen as the only LTC HCOs & consumers, who are the various LTC patients & organization types (list them)? Identify TWO from that list that were/are lesser known to you or you hadn’t considered before now and provide a brief overview of those two.
Three. Summarize the argument over institutional versus non-institutional care. Specifically, how is the distinction between the two not as clear as it seems? What is meant by “continuum of care,” and where does LTC fall within that overall system?
Four. Finally, what are the various strengths and weaknesses of LTC as a U.S.-based healthcare services delivery system (list them)? Identify ONE from each (strength/weak) that stands out to you and provide a brief overview of those two.
