Book: Family Therapy concepts & Methods 11th ed. Nicholas and David
This assignment is designed to guide and facilitate the development of students’ family case conceptualization skills, specifically with the structural and narrative family models. There are two parts to the assignment.
In the first part of the assignment, you will be discussing the assets and challenges that you bring from your family of origin, as well as from your culture-community of origin, to your role as a counselor for this family case.
In the second part of the assignment, you will discuss four possible areas of advocacy with and on behalf of this family and similar families.
In order to successfully complete this assignment, review and reflect on the sample family case study presented in Module 6. Of note, the case conceptualization of the Module 6 family case study is presented with attention to each of the nine question areas for this assignment. Thus, you have a template for how to proceed and it is advised that you carefully follow the case conceptualization for the Module 6 sample case study.
For the second part of the assignment, you will be connecting your learning about your family of origin and culture-community of origin to your potential role as a counselor to this family. This part of the assignment draws from all previous course assignments, including your M5 Assignment 2 RA 1Family of Origin.
The third part of the assignment involves your role as an advocate for this family. As you know, advocating for diverse populations is of increasing importance within the counseling profession and beyond. In summary, this assignment provides you with an opportunity to integrate and synthesize all areas of your learning to date in couple and family counseling.
Your final deliverable will be an 8- to 10-page Microsoft Word document utilizing a minimum of seven scholarly references (the textbook and two articles from required class readings may be utilized as two of these references). Your paper should be written in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate ethical scholarship in the accurate representation and attribution of sources; and display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation following current APA requirements. You are also encouraged to review and follow APA guidelines for use of unbiased language.
