Explore concepts of health and illness including models, dimensions of health and cultural safety. The student will discuss their personal, family and cultural health and illness-related practices. This will be achieved through a visual and written presentation. Assessment Task/Activities: • Create a photo essay by using six photos or images with captions that illustrate dimensions of your family health and related cultural health practices. • Discuss its significance to your personal health practices and how it relates to the following concepts: • You and your family’s view of wellness, provide your own definition of health and wellness • A model of health, define your chosen health model • Dimensions of wellness, define each of the chosen dimensions • Your personal and family cultural health practices, define culture • Ongoing development and awareness of diversity and cultural safety in nursing practice (awareness of diversity and cultural safety is defined). • Informed consent: Please gain permission from your immediate family if you are going to discuss personal information or show images of family members. This should be documented in the introduction. Structure: 1. Provide a brief introduction about your family and your own health concepts and the topics that will be discussed in the essay. 2. Six photos/images which relate to you and your family’s health and/or cultural practices (not all family photos). Caption each image according to APA 7th edition. Each picture should be no bigger than a third of a page with the associated caption (correctly referenced). 3. Under each photo, define each concept and discuss how the image relates to your discussion point a. One image that symbolises you and your family’s view of wellness, provide your own definition of health and wellness b. One images must relate to a model of health, define your chosen health model c. Two images must relate to dimensions of wellness, define each of the chosen dimensions d. One image will represent your personal and family cultural health practices, define culture e. One image will demonstrate your ongoing awareness of diversity and development of cultural safety in nursing practice. Define awareness of diversity and cultural safety. 4. Provide a brief conclusion that summarises key points identified within the essay and reflects the introduction. 5. You need to provide at least one in-text reference for each image (12 references minimum, 6 images and 6 in text citations). All captions, citations and referencing is to be APA 6th Ed. Format. 6.
