Consider your own personal history, lived experiences, and intersectional positionality and examine how your own social, economic, political, professional and academic life have been shaped and continue to shift and emerge today as you begin this course. In order to understand how our own unique biographies are entangled in structures of domination, this assignment asks for you to engage with your own journey in relation to systems of power, including racism, white privilege, and settler-colonialism, sexism and misogyny, homophobia and heterosexism, transphobia and cissexism, classism, ableism and saneism, etc. This is an opportunity to use your own experiences as entry points to understanding how spaces of inclusion and exclusion operate.
Questions to consider: How does my social location (intersections between race, gender, class, sexuality, nationality, language, dis/ability, etc.) situate me in relationship with others, and in relationship to domains of power and societal institutions (i.e. education, health, government, etc.)? How might I begin to understand my responsibility in ending or working against structures of domination that I have observed, experienced, or potentially been complicit within? How can I work to resist, act in solidarity with others, and survive in the midst of intersecting systems of violence and marginalization?
You must incorporate at least two readings from the course and be sure to include full and proper in-text citations. It is not necessary to include outside readings.
