In this paper, you are tasked with summarizing and analyzing Lareaus work and also applying your own childhood experiences to Lareaus framework. You should cover the following in your paper:
Describe and explain what Lareau means by her concepts “concerted cultivation” and the “accomplishment of natural growth.”
Analytically weigh the “pros” and “cons” of each approach for children– what is useful about each approach to childrearing and what is problematic about each approach.
After reading the empirical chapters that are assigned, explain where your family is located in terms of Lareau’s concepts with regard to the organization of daily life, language and interventions in institutions. Clearly identify which concept your family falls under- or if they straddle both. Explain why you categorized your family the way you did. Provide examples.
Compare your family to the families in Lareaus study. Do any of the families that Lareau studied resemble yours? In what ways? Provide examples- Remember you want to thoroughly demonstrate that you have engaged with the reading.
