Task. Design a one-page website or 5-minute video in which you reproduce the argument from your ARP for a public audience. Use ethos, logos, and/or pathos appeals in a way that you think will be effective with the targeted audience you’re addressing and that will persuade your readers to (a) accept new information or insights, (b) change their beliefs or attitudes about this issue, or (c) prompt them to take some kind of action.Audience and Purpose. You have a say in defining your target audience for this project. Remember, too, that there’s a difference between readers or viewers who happen upon your text and the particular audience for whom you target your message. In order to determine your target audience and rhetorical purpose, following these steps:Consider what populations of people are associated with your topic and decide which group you wish to speak to specifically (these populations may vary from the somewhat broad: 18- to 24-year-olds living in Ohio, to the very specific: engineering students at OSU, but more specific is usually better).As noted above, your purpose is to persuade your audience. Consider what response you are desiring from your audience—do you want them to (a) accept new information or insights, (b) change their beliefs or attitudes about this issue, or (c) prompt them to take some kind of action? Be specific.Finally, consider how you will accomplish this goal: what do you want to prompt your audience to understand, feel, and do?One-page Website Requirements. Your website must include the following elements:A descriptive or attention-grabbing title (at the top of the page or beginning of the video).At least 10 visual elements (These can be photos, graphics, illustrations, and videos). NOTE: All images that are not of your own creation must be from a source that gives expressed permission for reuse. We’ll talk in class about how to find these images. (Read How to Find and Identify Images for Your PDP.pdf for suggestions of where to find images.)A call-to-action (at the bottom of the page or end of the video before citations).A clear color and typography scheme.750-1000 words. (Note that this is much less text than your research paper, so you will need to carefully select the material that you want to include!)Proper citations of all sources, using guidelines for citing sources for public audiences, which we will cover in PPTs.Properly formatted list of image citations at the very bottom of the page or end of the video. Your Strategy Memo accounts for 50% of your grade for this project.
